GLORY 11 CHICAGO - NEW FIGHTS CONFIRMED
Published on Sep 4, 2013
Two superfights have been confirmed for the GLORY 11 CHICAGO event taking place Saturday, October 12th at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
Light-heavyweight Filip Verlinden (41-10-1, 16 KO’s) will face GLORY newcomer Saulo ‘Cassius Clay’ Cavaleri (26-2, 17 KO’s) while Blackzilian lightweight Gesias ‘JZ’ Cavalcante transitions from Mixed Martial Arts, where he stands 18-7-1, to face Australian knockout machine ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Moxon (33-6-1, 22 KO’s).
Noted for his boxing ability, Verlinden made it to the semi-finals of the recent GLORY 9 NEW YORK light-heavyweight tournament but lost a decision to Tyrone Spong, who went on to win the competition. Now the Belgian looks to bounce back and add another win to his 3-2 record in the world’s premier kickboxing league.
Cavalari comes from the Brazilian city of Curitiba, famous for producing world-class fighters and in particular, world-class strikers. He represents the Thai Brasil gym and has won numerous regional and national titles in his homeland, as well as victories in prestigious international competitions such as Russia’s TAFTNET Cup in 2012.
‘JZ’ Cavalcante is a training partner of Tyrone Spong, Alistair Overeem and others at The Blackzilians team in Florida, USA. He is well known in the MMA world for his fights in the Strikeforce and DREAM organizations.
Cavalcante has had one professional kickboxing match, losing a decision to top-ranked Japanese fighter Masato in a 2007 fight in Tokyo. His 18-7-1 record in Mixed Martial Arts includes victories over Tyson Griffin, Nam Phan, and Bart Palazewski.
Moxon fights out of Barbarian Muay Thai in Victoria, Australia. He has devastating power in his hands and has flattened numerous opponents in the course of his six-year career, earning an enviable 68% knockout ratio in his victories.
Among those victories are Ray Sefo protégé Jordan Tai and the well-known Australian fighter Bruce Macfie, one of the standout participants in ‘The Contender: Asia’ series. Moxon’s debut at GLORY 5 LONDON saw him lose a decision to Jordan Watson, so he wants to inflict a crushing knockout on Cavalcante.
GLORY 11 CHICAGO hosts a four-man Heavyweight World Championship Tournament featuring Gokhan Saki, Daniel Ghita, Rico Verhoeven and Anderson ‘Braddock’ Silva, plus a grudge rematch between Tyrone Spong and Nathan ‘Carnage’ Corbett. The main card will air live in the USA on SPIKE TV.
